Justin Bieber - the Rapper?

Justin Bieber is known for many things.  Having cool hair, making girls go crazy, being a huge pop star, and rapping in cyphers.  Wait, rapping in cyphers?  Yes, there is audio from DJ Premier speaking about putting together the cyphers for the BET awards.  In particular, this past years cyphers.  He said that Justin Bieber had asked to be a part of it, but wanted Ludacris to write his rhyme, so they told him no.  A couple of things made me feel weird when I heard this.  One, you don't really think of Justin Bieber as a rapper.  But in his defense, he has a feature on the song "Ladie's Love Me" by Chris Brown and he only raps and does a great job.  I don't know if he wrote it or not, but that brings up my second point.  A cypher is supposed to be a freestyle.  Granted, these days everyone basically knows people aren't freestyling anymore but to hear a hip hop legend like DJ Premier say "if you ain't writing your own rhyme, you can't do it", it just kind of made me feel, as a long time hip hop fan, that that piece of the game is gone.  What do you think about cyphers?  Should they be all freestyle or does it even matter anymore?
